My Everest is: Send a rookie to Australia
EcoChallenge
I would like to share the joy and exhiliration I have experienced in adventure racing with someone that isn't able to afford to pay for the race fees and gear to enter an expedition race. I am planning to go to Australia in 5 months to do a 10-day race and would love to find and select a teammate to join me on this amazing adventure.
Adventure racing has become a central part of my life. The skills needed for adventure racing translate over to many other facets of life and can be used to accomplish goals well beyond the finish line. Working together as a team, helping people when they need it, making critical decisions, eating, drinking, breathing, resting, setting goals, reaching them, pushing your limits and setting new goals. All of these descriptions fit not only the sport of adventure racing but also the adventures encountered in the sport of life. Since beginning the sport, I have found myself drawn even more to the outdoors. Setting race goals inspires me to set and strive for goals in the rest of my life.
I have now completed over 40 adventure races, including three expedition length races - Primal Quest Utah in 2006, Raid the North Extreme in 2007 and Primal Quest Montana in 2008. I have recently become intrigued to push my own personal boundaries to the next level by entering an event with new teammates, including people I won’t have met or trained with prior to the race. This will be a true test of teamwork, as I will not know the strengths or weaknesses of my teammates but will need to learn and adapt quickly in order to safely make it through the course. I am currently talking to people from all over the world about entering the XPD race in Australia in May 2010. I would like to be able to share my experience and knowledge of adventuring racing with someone that doesn't have the means to enter such a large event, to show them how it can change their life and help them push their boundaries and set even greater goals for them to aspire to. |
I now have a plane ticket, two teammates and most of the gear to go on this international adventure, which begins in less than 5 months. I've been training and seeking teammates from around the world. Our team of 3 needs a 4th in order to enter this event. I would like to make it possible for someone to join us on this adventure and experience what it is like to do an adventure race.
